Take in the now, not later

The best gift you can give yourself is being present (pun intended).

You are not doing yourself any favours, when you are currently doing something you have looked forward to for so long, but you are already looking to the next. We are exposed to so much in our day to day. Being bombarded with responsibilities, work, obligations, family and social media, that we need to realize, at the end of the day, we don’t allow time to even enjoy the simple things.

I struggle with this. I find it difficult to be in the moment, my mind wanders to other things making lists and ticking off tasks. While i am having a conversation, i am also doing an email or while i watch a movie, i am also checking social media. It is like i can’t seem to stand still and smell the roses. We are so used to having stimuli coming from all angles, that when it slows down, we create our own chaos.

This builds and builds until it is too heavy to bear. In this fast paced society, we must realize we are not built for this. As humans we learn and grow through our experiences, but how can we do this when we cut them short? After finding myself, laying in bed with no motivation at all, feeling drained from even the most mundane of tasks, i started thinking…am i contributing to this? The answer is yes. So what is the solution?

We need to make a conscious effort to focus on one thing at a time. To enjoy the sun kissing your skin and stop for that moment. To breathe in the silence effortlessly, suppressing the need to fill it. What is that saying? “Life is what happens when you are making other plans.” Never has something rung truer than this.

Do things at your own pace, be present, take in the now, make memories that you will cherish for the rest of your life and live in them. Don’t squander what you have, yearning for the future. Sometimes the sweetest things are the simplest.

Till next time…
